RC Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser was named Ligue 1’s best goalkeeper at the UNFP awards on Monday night, his first individual honour.
According to L'Équipe, he is the second Lens player to win the prize after Brice Samba in 2023, when Franck Haise was also coach of the year.
Risser, 21, joined from Strasbourg last summer having never played in Ligue 1.
He has made 32 appearances, conceding 33 goals and recording 11 clean sheets, as Lens hold the league’s second-best defensive record.
His breakthrough season has put him in contention for France’s World Cup squad. The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July, and Didier Deschamps will name his squad on Thursday.
