Rodgers nails it on brass neck behaviour of Ferguson, Dodds and McCann

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has shared his thoughts on the mounting pressure surrounding theRangers boss Russell Martin, who is facing increasing speculation about his future at Ibrox…

The former MK Dons, Swansea City and Southampton manager was booed onto the dugout after half-time at Ibrox last weekend after his side fell 2-0 to Hearts, a result that left the club sitting 10th in the Scottish Premiership with no wins in their first five league games.

Now, the Celtic boss has offered his support to Martin and defended the heavily talked-about Loch Lomond team-bonding trip held earlier this week.

“I see some of the stuff from during the week when the team went on a team-building exercise – Every team does that. Like anything in life, it’s timing,” Rodgers said at yesterday’s media conference ahead of tomorrow’s Premier Sports League Cup quarter-final at Firhill against Partick Thistle. .

“In another time, if Russell did that and they won a few games, everyone would be saying, ‘what a great idea.’ We had a team building exercise during the week with the players and the partners and wives and girlfriends, and it was really nice. Thankfully, you guys didn’t get to hear about it.”

Rodgers added: “I have some issues around the moral aspect when I see people commenting on how he’s doing, and not that long ago, they were standing in his shoes or sat on the bench.”

“So I don’t like that when I see a manager being pulled up on certain parts of the game, certain tactics of the game, that not so long ago, other people couldn’t work that out either.”

“I see the scrutiny that’s on Russell, and whatever happens for him, he will be better for it.”

The latest Ibrox club face Hibernian this evening in the Premier Sports League Cup quarter-final at Ibrox. You’d imagine that if it’s another defeat for Martin, it’s surely curtains for him and groundhog day for theRangers as they press the panic button yet again looking for another re-set.

Also, Rodgers is spot on. Guys like Barry Ferguson, Neil McCann and Billy Dodds have walked straight back into their media roles and are telling the guy how to coach, desperate for him to be sacked. An absolute brass-neck.
