After a 1-1 draw with Old Firm rivals Rangers, Celtic returned to winning ways at Parkhead by clinching a comeback victory against Hibernian. The champions will now travel to Pittodrie on Wednesday night to clash heads with Aberdeen in a dead rubber fixture. However, the outing would allow Brendan Rodgers to monitor the Dons minutely ahead of locking horns again in the Scottish Cup final.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen would aim for a result in their own backyard with their European spot at stake. Dundee United are within three points of Jimmy Thelin’s men, and a win against the Light Blues could see them climb up to fourth if the Dons fail to snatch at least a point before the weekend’s showdown versus the Tangerines.

Defence

Kasper Schmeichel returned to action against the Hibs, recovering from his shoulder injury. The veteran Dane is expected to keep his place with Viljami Sinisalo back among the substitutes after a run of games between the sticks.

Injuries to Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers decimated the Hoops in the defensive third. While the flair of Anthony Ralston has kept the right flank functioning, Auston Trusty could not make a similar impact in place of Carter-Vickers. Yet the USMNT centre-half might get the nod over Maik Nawrocki to partner with Liam Scales in the heart of the backline. Greg Taylor is likely to part ways on a Bosman, but he remains the preferred choice down the left despite losing his spot to Jeffrey Schlupp for a few weeks.

Midfield

Celtic have a stable three-man midfield with skipper Callum McGregor driving the show from the deep as a ‘number six’. His ability to carry the ball forward from the deep, vision, distribution and technicality should see them dominate possession and open up space for Reo Hatate and Arne Engels to operate box-to-box and control the pockets and half spaces in the middle of the park. Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan could be introduced at some stage as second-half substitutes.

Attack

Celtic have lost Jota for months with an ACL injury. Daizen Maeda has shifted down the left in his absence to incorporate Adam Idah high up the pitch.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Kuhn is enjoying a boisterous run as he scored and assisted against Hibernian to script a comeback at the backend of the first half. Hyun-Jun Yang, Johnny Kenny and the veteran James Forrest might grab some minutes as attacking alternatives across the frontline.
