Flamengo are navigating turbulence behind the scenes after sacking head coach Filipe Luís, with Rodrigo Dunshee publicly condemning Bap’s handling of the situation. According to Coluna Do Fla, the former vice general in the Landim era criticised Bap following the official announcement.
The dismissal surprised many, coming immediately after a heavy win over Madureira in the Carioca. Filipe Luís leaves having collected major titles and set personal records.
Dunshee called it lamentable to remove him at the first, still minor, difficulty. He stressed that Filipe Luís is the current Carioca, Brasileiro and Libertadores champion, nearly won the Club World Cup, had done a great job and, in his view, would certainly have improved the team to win more trophies. He argued the issue lay in the appointment’s origin, saying the coach was not chosen by the current leader but by the previous administration, which he labelled childish, and he wished Filipe further success and a future return.
Flamengo are very close to appointing Leonardo Jardim as their new coach. The Portuguese is due to arrive in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, and is expected to be announced by the end of the week.
In the meantime, the squad prepare to face Fluminense in the Carioca final at the Maracanã on Sunday at 18:00 Brasília time.
