Real Madrid got their first big win of the season as they beat Espanyol 4-1 in the league encounter last night. This was still not a perfect match for the Merengues, as they had to come back from behind after a Thibaut Courtois own goal, but the team’s second-half performance was still very good.

Rodrygo Goes was one of the goal-scorers on the night as he put the ball in the net to make the scoreline 2-1 in favour of Real Madrid. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Brazilian also spoke to the media after the match and commented on several aspects of the game.

The forward revealed that Ancelotti was angry with the team for one particular reason ahead of the game:

“Winning with this jersey is always very important, and it’s our goal. It was a tough match. The coach is a bit upset with us because we only score goals in the second halves. Today we conceded a goal, but we kept calm to score.”

“We reacted quickly, but in the pre-match talk, the coach told us that we’ve been very poor in the first halves of the previous matches. We only scored against Mallorca in the first game of the league; we had to do better in the first half today, and we did, but we didn’t score. We managed to do it in the second half.”

Although there have been some rumours about his dissatisfaction with his role in the squad, Rodrygo went on to share that he is feeling very good at the moment and also thanked Vinicius for his assist:

“I feel very good. The season is just beginning, and on a personal level, I feel good physically and, more importantly, mentally. Always ready to help the team.”

“We have a great atmosphere, there’s a lot of respect among everyone as we all share the same goal and are focused. Vini’s assist was spectacular, very much like Luka Modric. He’s getting better at that pass every time, and I appreciate his assist.”

Lastly, the Brazilian also shared his happiness on going 38 matches without a defeat, and showed his intention to build further on this streak:

“It’s harder than it seems, there are many matches, but we want much more and to go the whole season unbeaten. We’re going to try.”

Without any doubt, going a full season without a defeat would be a feat unprecedented even in the history of a club as good as Real Madrid. Hopefully, Ancelotti will be able to lead his team to such an achievement, and Rodrygo will continue to perform an important role in the team to achieve this feat.
