Roma could face a heavy tax penalty ranging between 17 and 34 million euros.

The Guardia di Finanza – an Italian law enforcement agency under the authority of the Minister of Economy and Finance – conducted an investigation into the club’s financial statements for the period 2016-2021, highlighting an “irregular declaration” by the club.

At the center of the disputes are accounting transactions related to player exchanges and excessive devaluations.

Among the most significant transactions under examination, the swap involving Luca Pellegrini and Leonardo Spinazzola with Juventus stands out.

The irregular devaluations would concern several players, including Diawara, Pastore, Nzonzi and Dzeko.

In total, La Repubblica reports, the maneuvers would have generated non-deductible costs of around 80 million euros, on which Roma would have had to pay 19 million euros in taxes.

After the presentation of the report in Trigoria, Roma chose not to join the conciliation, which would have reduced the sanctions.

Now it is up to the Revenue Agency to decide whether to confirm the sanctions or initiate further investigations.

If the club fails to reach an agreement, the case could end up in the Tax Court.
