Forty-eight goals in two seasons and a €55 million valuation from Marseille.
Roma and Gian Piero Gasperini appear to have identified the signing they absolutely must secure during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The former Manchester United talent, now in France, is the club’s flagship player, but he would like to continue playing in the Champions League, and the French club, having qualified for next season’s Europa League, cannot guarantee him this opportunity.
Furthermore, due to Financial Fair Play issues, Marseille would need to sell, with 40% of the proceeds going to the Red Devils.
However, the good relationship with the club following the Robinio Vaz deal could facilitate this.
According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Greenwood is reportedly at the top of Gasperini and Roma’s shortlist: the English striker represents the ideal candidate to fill a void in a department that needs at least two fresh, young players to truly improve.
An alternative to Greenwood is Crysencio Summerville, left winger from recently relegated West Ham. The Dutch player has just been called up to the World Cup by Koeman, as has his teammate and striker Donyell Malen.
One player who appears destined to leave Trigoria is Matias Soulé: with Dybala’s contract extension imminent and the likely arrival of at least two attacking players, there may be less and less room for the former Juventus and Frosinone player: Unai Emery’s Aston Villa is strongly interested in him.
