Julian Brandt will leave Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer, and Roma have entered the race to sign him. The Giallorossi have had a few contacts with Francesco Randazzo, who represents the player in Italy, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

Juventus and Como are lurking, but the capital club has been more active so far. The attacker is expected to pick a team that plays in the UEFA Champions League. He’d reunite with Donyell Malen in the Eternal City. The two starred together for four productive seasons in Germany.

Brandt earns roughly €3.5M per year, and Roma would be able to offer him a small pay rise. They have set the bar at €4M in their relatively new wage policy. He’ll likely fetch larger offers from other sides, but the Giallorossi would guarantee a prominent role and have a very ambitious project. The 29-year-old has piled up 300 appearances with Borussia Dortmund, tallying 56 goals and 69 assists.

In the same role, the capital club is currently expected to move on from Paulo Dybala. His salary is way too high, especially given his frequent injury woes. He could depart without even a real negotiation. Moreover, they are leaning toward not buying out Bryan Zaragoza, who hasn’t done enough to justify a €13M disbursement. They’d have to pay a €500k penalty to Bayern Munich if that were the case.

Our Take on Roma and Brandt

He’s a juicy target for a lot of teams, and they have a couple of advantages. However, the Serie A sides would easily be blown out of the water if the top Premier League franchises muscled their way into a bidding war.
