Alessio Romagnoli will miss Lazio’s game at Genoa on Friday. He is still expected to stay, with the Qatari window closing on Saturday.
“Romagnoli won’t be available tomorrow (on Friday). The transfer window in Qatar closes on Saturday, and there is very little room to get a deal done with Al-Sadd. I’m confident that, if he ends up staying, he’ll return to the squad and play for the rest of the season.” he told Radio Laziale.
The centre-back’s saga has dominated this month. Unhappy with Claudio Lotito’s unfulfilled salary promises, the 31-year-old pushed for a switch to Roberto Mancini’s Al-Sadd. Lazio were said to have granted permission, asked him to play once more in Lecce, and after he saluted the travelling fans the club then declared him off the market.
It has since been reported that Lotito would only sell if Maurizio Sarri requested it, a step the head coach is unwilling to take. Amid the standoff, Romagnoli is refusing to train at Formello.
Sarri is set to turn to young Danish centre-back Oliver Provstgaard against the Grifone. He hopes to have his most trusted defender available for the trip to Turin to face Juventus the following weekend.
