Lazio agreed Alessio Romagnoli’s sale to Al-Sadd weeks ago, but there has been no progress and the move could yet collapse.

La Repubblica and Tuttomercatoweb report that Al-Sadd have developed cold feet over a three-year contract worth €18m net.

The saga dates back to January, when the defender pushed to leave and even waved goodbye to supporters. The transfer fell apart as paperwork was not completed before the deadline, so he stayed for six months.

It was widely reported at the end of June that he had signed to join Al-Sadd for a fee of around €3m. A month on, he remains in Italy awaiting the all-clear.

With the global political situation offering little stability, it is entirely possible the deal could collapse for the second time in six months.

Romagnoli, 31, is under contract at Lazio until the end of this season, having arrived as a free agent from Milan in 2022.
