Just as Chelsea approach their biggest two games of the season, things seem to be getting really busy off the pitch too.
Last week was all about players we weren’t going to get – the Blues seemed to fall behind in their chase for Dean Huijsen and Liam Delap, not long after both looked likely arrivals this summer.
Perhaps in response to those setbacks, and with a desire to get things moving ahead of the Club World Cup which kick off in less than a month, we’re hearing reports today that Chelsea have made a major striker move, offering €60m for Brighton striker Joao Pedro.
The rumours have accumulated in the last few days and then reached breaking point today, with Globo in Brazil putting out a major story, and then Fabrizio Romano backing up shortly afterwards with a nod back to a Tweet from a couple of days ago where he mentioned potential summer moves for the Brighton forward.
Globo say we’ve already made our opening offer, with a desire to wrap things up quickly and get the Brazil international signed up in time for the CWC in June.
Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about Joao Pedro.
Pedro would be coming in to compete with Nicolas Jackson as our number one striker, and he has a lot of similar strengths.
He works hard, can play out wide, and links up well with his teammates. However he has similar weaknesses too – he’s not a prolific scorer. He notched 5 goals from open play in the Premier League this season. We can see the logic here, but there’s are certainly strikers we’ve been linked to in the last couple of years who would get fans more excited.
