Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen is a target for many top clubs this summer, and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano’s latest video goes into quite a lot of detail on what it would take to sign him for any club:
“The release clause is £50m. I can confirm once again that the clause is there, that the clause is £50m, and that the clause is active this summer.”
He points out that there is still negotiating to be done however – as we saw with Enzo Fernandez’s deal a couple of years ago. While £50m is the basic fee needed as a lump sum, we could also offer Bournemouth a sweetener on top of that to allow us to break up our payments into stages, to ease the burden in FFP terms.

There is no doubt that we are in the race here. Romano said the following on the Blues interest:
“Which clubs [are interested]? Chelsea are there. They have an excellent relationship with people close to the player, they’ve been tracking the player for a long time. Really appreciated by people at the club, so Chelsea are there.”
You can see Romano speaking in the clip embedded here, with the section on Huijsen coming after 2 minutes:
The youngster looks like a world class prospect, and given we spent £40m on Axel Disasi not long ago, £50m seems pretty cheap. If he’s interested in coming, we should do all we can to go out and get him.
However with the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool also reportedly interested and mentioned by Romano in the video above, it’s not going to be easy.
There would also surely need to be another defender sold as well as Disasi to balance the squad.
