It seems like they are looking at Riccardo Calafiori of Bologna due to the fact he is also a left back as well as a centre back, which is two positions Chelsea might want to cover this window.

The Italian international has had a very impressive Euros and as a result, has some big clubs in for him, including Chelsea and Arsenal.

Noise building up

Over recent days the Calafiori noise has been building up surrounding his future, and it looks like he is almost certainly going to be leaving his club this window. It looks like he club are even encouraging a bidding war for him as the interest comes in. We look to be heading into another transfer saga, another transfer race, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are well and truly involved now.

He said on his latest Here We Go Podcast episode: “Chelsea and Arsenal are really interested in Riccardo Calafiori. No negotiations or proposals yet. Chelsea could tempt Bologna by including a player. It’s important to see what the player wants; the problem won’t be the salary. The race is open.”

This is becoming a theme, Chelsea offering players as part of the deal yet these deals are not officially ending up to be swap deals. Chelsea signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City, and then sold them academy player Michael Golding to sweeten the deal. This was also not officially a swap deal.
