Manchester City have sanctioned a surprise move which sees one of their creative mainstays join Everton on loan. The agreement includes an option to buy for £50 million in summer 2026, though any permanent deal will depend on the player’s own decision at that time.
This transfer follows persistent interest from David Moyes, who identified the attacking midfielder as a priority signing. Everton explored other targets earlier in the summer, but those negotiations failed to progress. The move now offers the player a platform to secure regular minutes ahead of a World Cup year, with his medical already taking place on Merseyside.

With multiple attacking departures under discussion, Manchester City are weighing up their options in the market. One name under consideration is Rodrygo, currently with Real Madrid. The Brazilian international has long been admired within City’s recruitment circles and is seen as a player capable of adding versatility and directness to Pep Guardiola’s front line.
Any deal, however, would be complicated and expensive. Real Madrid have maintained they are open to a sale only if the player signals his intention to leave, and the transfer window’s closing stages provide little room for extended negotiations. Rodrygo is said to be happy in Spain, but the opportunity to work under Guardiola could alter his stance. City are keeping a watching brief should circumstances shift.
Elsewhere, Chelsea remain in active talks with RB Leipzig regarding a potential move for a highly rated midfielder. The player’s desire to join Stamford Bridge is clear, while Chelsea also explore options for forward Christopher Nkunku, with Leipzig a possible destination.
Although the two situations are being discussed simultaneously, they are understood to be separate deals. Chelsea are seeking the right financial and structural package to secure the midfielder’s services, while ensuring any outgoing business aligns with their broader squad planning.
