Napoli and Romelu Lukaku have reached a positive resolution following recent discussions over his injury rehabilitation.

Lukaku travelled back to Italy earlier this week to hold face-to-face talks with Napoli officials after concerns emerged over his absence from the club’s training base.

The 32-year-old had been recovering in Belgium after suffering a setback in his return from a long-term hamstring injury, a decision that initially caused tension.

Napoli had previously considered disciplinary measures after Lukaku failed to report for training, but those concerns have now eased following constructive dialogue between both parties.

It has been agreed that the striker will continue his rehabilitation programme in Belgium, with the club satisfied that the arrangement best supports his recovery.

Lukaku is expected to return to Naples once he reaches full fitness, with a timeline being managed carefully ahead of his anticipated involvement in upcoming international commitments.

The forward has endured a frustrating campaign, having missed much of the season after sustaining a hamstring injury in pre-season.

Although he returned to action in January, his involvement has been limited, with just seven appearances made, all from the substitutes’ bench.

His decision to remain in Belgium during the March international break further highlighted his focus on regaining full fitness.

Lukaku addressed the situation publicly, saying that he could never turn his back on Napoli while explaining that ongoing physical issues had prevented him from performing at his best.

He added that medical checks had revealed inflammation around the iliopsoas muscle, which required careful management to avoid further complications.

The striker joined Napoli from Chelsea in 2024 and made an immediate impact during his first season.

He bagged 14 goals and 11 assists as Napoli secured the Serie A title, establishing himself as a key figure in the squad.

Despite the current campaign being disrupted by injury, the club remain confident in Lukaku’s importance once he returns to full fitness.
