Romeo Lavia has sent a message of support to Dario Essugo after the midfielder picked up an injury on international duty.

Essugo arrived from Sporting Lisbon this summer in a deal worth around £18m, and made his debut at the Club World Cup.

The 20-year-old was signed to provide much needed cover for Moises Caicedo, so the Blues can give the Ecuadorian a rest when needed.

Essugo has yet to feature for the Blues in the opening three games of the Premier League, but unfortunately he’ll now have to wait longer.

Essugo underwent successful surgery on a thigh injury.

Chelsea released a statement confirming the surgery, and that Essugo would begin his rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff.

It’s a major blow for the youngster who’s set for a seemingly long spell on the sidelines, and he will need the support of his team-mates.

One player who’s no stranger when it comes to injury is Lavia, and he sent a message of support to Essugo on Instagram saying:

“Scary times incoming (not for us) knowing you’ll be back stronger and better Pepeno!”

Chelsea suddenly light in midfield?

Whilst it’s bad news Essugo is injured, Chelsea have been boosted by the fact Lavia has now returned to full training.

Lavia has been plagued by injury issues since joining from Southampton in the summer of 2023, and Chelsea will desperately be hoping this season he can stay fit.

The Blues currently have Enzo Fernandez, Andrey Santos and Caicedo as fit midfielders, and will want Lavia back in the mix as soon as possible.

It remains to be seen if the Belgian will be in the squad for the game against Brentford, but it’s a positive step in the right direction that he’s returned to training.
