Trossard’s decision to delay the restart was labelled “ridiculous” by pundit Jamie Carragher while fellow pundit Gary Neville suggested the forward knew exactly what he was doing. Teammate Calafiori had suggested Trossard simply didn’t hear the whistle, while Arteta claimed he expected “100” red cards across the Premier League this season if what his player did genuinely warrant a dismissal. “I was already in big trouble trying to solve what happened on the pitch.

The Gunners fell behind to Erling Haaland’s 100th City goal but eventually took the lead in the first-half after goals from Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arteta had appeared on course to send the club’s nine-year wait to win at the Etihad Stadium but saw his task made even harder not long before the break.

Leandro Trossard was sent off for two bookable offences, the second of which came when the Belgian kicked the ball away after referee Michael Oliver had blown his whistle for a foul.

Trossard’s decision to delay the restart was labelled “ridiculous” by pundit Jamie Carragher while fellow pundit Gary Neville suggested the forward knew exactly what he was doing. In the end, John Stones bagged a late equaliser to secure a point for the hosts.

"I’ve seen it and it’s that obvious so I’ll leave it to you guys,” he said.

“I was already in big trouble trying to solve what happened on the pitch. It’s not my problem to solve what happens off the pitch.

"It’s that obvious that it’s not necessary to comment on it. It’s the second time. I’m expecting 100 Premier League games to be, 10 against 11 or nine vs 10 this season. Let’s see.”

Keane, who was speaking on Sky Sports, took umbrage to Arteta’s reaction and urged the Gunners boss to accept the decision.

“Managers are coming out every week saying every decision is against them,” he said.

“Just come out and accept it.

“Deep down he'll be satisfied with a point. Show a bit of class, manager of Arsenal. He probably deserved the red card, we reacted well and we move on.

“That's the end of it. Take your medicine and move on. Show a bit of class.”
