Amorim set to have several first-team players back for upcoming run
Ruben Amorim has confirmed Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire are available to face Nottingham Forest, while Manchester United will have Ayden Heaven fit again before the end of the season.
United travel to high-flying Forest on Tuesday night, looking to extend the four-match unbeaten run they were on before the international break.
Heaven will not be involved in that trip, after he suffered a foot injury against Leicester earlier this month, but fears of a longer-term injury have been played down by Amorim.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, the United boss said: “It is not so serious. He is recovering, he is not yet ready to play but he will return this season, for sure.”
It has been a lengthy injury list for Amorim to contend with in recent weeks, but that is now easing and defensive duo Yoro and Maguire are in contention to feature at the City Ground in midweek.
“Mason Mount is feeling better, but he was on the bench in the last game,” Amorim said.
“Kobbie [Mainoo] is almost ready but not ready for this game, Jonny [Evans] and Ayden are recovering, Licha [Martinez] is out. Maguire is also ready to go to the game and Yoro, yes.”
There was also an update on Luke Shaw, who has not started a single match this season.
The left-back has made three substitute appearances, with the last of those coming at the start of December, but Amorim revealed Shaw is making progress, even if a long-awaited return is not imminent.
"Luke [Shaw] is not ready yet,” Amorim said.
“We are starting to do some drills with the team but we are building Luke.”
