Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has urged the club to sign a new left-back in the upcoming transfer windows, a report has claimed.
Amorim's first outing at the Red Devils' helm ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town, during which the elation of Marcus Rashford's early goal quickly faded into the frustration that plagued the final stages of the Erik ten Hag era.
The new boss is expected to push for new signings in both January and the summer, and according to Fabrizio Romano, he has repeatedly urged United officials to find him a new left-back.
In his 3-4-3 setup, it was versatile right-back Diogo Dalot who started over at left wing-back. The Portugal international impressed but the shortcomings of using a player outside of their natural position were clear to see.
As a result, Amorim is believed to have told the club after the Ipswich game that signing a new left-back should be a top priority for 2025.
United's current squad includes two senior left-backs. Luke Shaw came off the bench against Ipswich after returning from a lengthy injury absence, while Tyrell Malacia is still working towards a comeback after spending the last 18 months on the sidelines battling his own fitness issue.
Paris Saint-Germain's Nuno Mendes, who blossomed into a star under Amorim at Sporting, was recently named as a possible target, while Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies has also been linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
Raising the money for new signings could be an issue, however, with Amorim expected to be forced to operate on a more modest transfer budget than his predecessor.
