Benfica may be drifting from the signing of Franco Mastantuono, with Serie A emerging as his most likely next step. The Real Madrid prospect has been linked with a loan and Italian interest is intensifying.
Marca reports that Fiorentina, Napoli and Milan, coached by Ruben Amorim, lead the pursuit of the 18-year-old, and that Madrid want a club who will give him regular minutes, ideally as an attacking midfielder.
Mastantuono is not in José Mourinho’s plans for the new season, and a loan is seen as the ideal way to speed his development. He cost around 60 million euros last summer and featured in 35 matches in 2025/26.
Benfica have monitored his progress for years. The Lisbon side have tracked him since 2024, when he was at River Plate, and were linked with a summer move.
Although the Argentina international would prefer to return to his boyhood club, Madrid want him to continue in Europe. With several Italian teams able to offer a more prominent role, competition for Benfica is increasing.
