Manchester United were dealt a heavy blow this week, with Ruben Amorim denied the opportunity to reunite with his pupil Geovany Quenda.
As revealed by several sources in recent days, Chelsea have prevailed in the race for the 17-year-old’s services. Fabrizio Romano explained how the Blues managed to strike an agreement with Sporting CP after offering the Portuguese giants more enticing terms compared to Man Utd, including keeping the teenager on loan in Lisbon for another year.
Moreover, the Italian journalist revealed that Amorim played a negative role in this transfer duel, as Quenda preferred to avoid his old manager and his 3-4-2-1 formation which would have forced him to play as a wingback or an attacking midfielder rather than his favourite position as an inverted winger.
Therefore, Fichajes.net believes the 40-year-old is now looking to bounce back from his disappointing episode by luring another one of his old Sporting disciples to Old Trafford. The man in question is none other than the ‘unstoppable’ Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international started his career somewhat as a journeyman, but has now emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe thanks to his exceptional scoring stats. This season, he has bagged 39 goals and provided nine assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.
Needless to say, United would have to overcome competition from half of Europe to secure the 27-year-old’s services next summer. However, they’re hoping that, unlike Quenda’s case, Amorim’s presence would sway the bomber, as the Portuguese manager played an instrumental role in his meteoric rise to stardom.
Gyokeres reportedly has a €100 million release clause, but could be available for a fee worth £65 million. The Red Devils also continue to monitor other strikers, the likes of Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko and Jean-Philippe Mateta.
