Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the season and their players have failed to shine on the international stage across this recent break.

The international break may have come as a welcome relief for Ruben Amorim, who has faced increased scrutiny after his side’s cup exit against League Two Grimsby. However, there has been little for him to get excited about across this break.

Whilst other Premier League stars excelled, no United player was able to get on the scoresheet for their country. Across the whole of the Reds’ squad, there was just a single assist to report.

Benjamin Sesko played every minute for Slovenia but could only manage a single shot on target across their two fixtures. The striker moved to Old Trafford from RB Leipzig in a £74 million deal last month, but he is yet to score since making the switch.

It was a disappointing international break for Slovenia, who now find themselves bottom of their World Cup qualifying group. An injury time equaliser earned them a draw against Sweden but they then succumbed to a 3-0 loss against Switzerland.

Bruno Fernandes started in both matches as Portugal began their World Cup qualifiers this international break. Following their triumph in the UEFA Nations League, they defeated both Armenia and Hungary.

Patrick Dorgu played 26 minutes for Denmark in their 3-0 win against Greece. He entered the action at the same time as loaned-out striker Rasmus Hojlund, who went on to notch a goal.

Mathijs de Ligt played just a single minute across the Netherlands’ two fixtures. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was an unused substitute in both of Turkey’s matches.

Elsewhere, Manuel Ugarte came off the bench for Uruguay in their 3-0 victory over Peru. The midfielder then played the full match as Marcelo Bielsa’s side were held to a goalless draw away against Chile.

These were Uruguay’s final matches in the South American World Cup qualifiers and they have secured their place at next summer’s flagship tournament.

Casemiro also featured out in South America for Brazil, starting in their 3-0 win against Chile. The midfielder should have been joined by new teammate Matheus Cunha; however the £62 million signing withdrew from the squad due to the injury he suffered against Burnley.

Fellow new signing Bryan Mbeumo started in Cameroon’s two World Cup qualifiers. The attacker recorded an assist in their 3-0 victory over Eswatini but they then suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cape Verde.

Also in Africa, Amad Diallo started both of the Ivory Coast’s fixtures. They defeated Burundi and were held to a goalless draw with Gabon, continuing their undefeated start in their World Cup qualifiers.
