Portugal’s biggest doubt on the eve of their World Cup 2026 opener is whether Ruben Dias will be fit, the centre-back still working apart from the squad. According to L'Équipe, he has not taken part in any full session since the team arrived in the United States on 12 June.
He started both warm-up wins, 2-1 against Chile on six June and 2-1 against Nigeria on 10 June.
On Tuesday he again trained individually without the ball at the Palm Beach base in Florida, hours before departure for Houston, Texas, where Portugal begin on Wednesday against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The federation has not disclosed the nature of his problem, though the second half of his Manchester City season was disrupted by hamstring issues.
If he is unavailable, Roberto Martinez could select left-footer Gonçalo Inacio of Sporting Portugal or Thomas Araujo of Benfica, with Inacio having underwhelmed in his most recent international appearance.
