Benfica’s move for Wout Weghorst could be complicated by the striker’s wages, with Twente also keen on the 33-year-old. According to Glorioso 1904, Rui Costa is aware the numbers may become a stumbling block.

The Dutch forward is understood to fit the profile desired by José Mourinho, who has spoken about wanting a striker with greater presence in the box. He previously tried to sign Lorenzo Lucca, who instead joined Nottingham Forest.

Capology reports that Weghorst earns a net salary of around two and a half million euros at Ajax, plus a three million euros bonus. That figure is beyond Twente’s reach, and Benfica would look to negotiate the terms with the Netherlands international.

This season Weghorst has played 28 official matches for Ajax, 23 in the Eredivisie and five in the Champions League. Across 1,777 minutes, he has recorded eight goals and two assists.

Transfermarkt values the striker at two and a half million euros. Any deal remains complicated by the financial demands and rival interest.
