Rui Costa on alert as Erica Meg Parkinson earns England call-up amid Benfica interest

Erica Meg Parkinson, 17, who has impressed for Valadares Gaia, has received her first senior England call-up.

According to Glorioso 1904, she is on the radar of Rui Costa and Benfica, who are studying a potential move in the near future.

The midfielder has been one of the revelations of the Liga BPI, featuring regularly for Valadares Gaia this season.

Until now she had only represented England at youth level, earning 22 Under-17 caps and 12 for the Under-19s. She now joins Sarina Wiegmann’s squad for 2027 World Cup qualifying.

Wiegmann has named 22 other players alongside Parkinson as England look to move closer to the finals. Their next opponents are Spain, the reigning champions, and Iceland.
