Rui Costa ‘to renew’ Nélson Veríssimo’s Benfica B contract

Benfica are close to securing Nélson Veríssimo’s continued tenure as B team coach, with Rui Costa set to renew his contract.

A BOLA reports that Veríssimo has a renewal offer on the table and that an agreement should be made official in the coming days, despite approaches from clubs in Portugal and abroad.

Veríssimo, 49, has led the B team for three years and had two previous spells in charge of the first team. He returned to Benfica in 2023/24 after a stint at Estoril.

Benfica B finished 10th in the Segunda Liga this season. “It was a year of rebuilding, with a lot of youth and little competitive experience,” he told BTV.

Veríssimo added: “José Mourinho was very present day to day.”
