Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch says he has been given more freedom to get forward this season.

The Dutchman scored his side’s opening goal as they beat Merseyside rivals Everton 2-1 at Anfield to continue their perfect start to the season.

And having played as a more defensive-minded midfielder last season, Gravenberch now revealed he has been given more licence to attack.

“The coach has given me the confidence,” Gravenberch told TNT Sports after the game.

“This season, we have more freedom in the midfield. Last season I was only in the six (position), like deep, and now I can go more forward which you see today.

“I think my strength is also there (in attack) so I’m happy with that, and also with the goal.”

Hugo Ekitike started up front over record signing Alexander Isak and scored his side’s second before Idrissa Gueye pulled one back in the second half.

And Gravenberch says the squad depth at Slot’s disposal will be key as Liverpool head into a busy run of games.

“Of course, we know we have a good group,” he said when asked if there is still more to come from his side.

“We bought players as well, really good players, so we know it’s not only the starting 11 but it’s the whole team.

“We are like a family so we push each other.

“You see, for example, Hugo scored today then Isak comes in so I’m really happy with the squad.”
