Sabri Lamouchi has reportedly been sacked by Tunisia after just one World Cup game. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, reports on Monday said the 54-year-old would be removed mid-tournament. The reports followed a 5-1 opening defeat by Sweden.
Lamouchi is well known in Leeds for a Nottingham Forest win that spawned an infamous post-match interview. The former France international oversaw Forest’s February 2020 defeat of Marcelo Bielsa’s side at the City Ground, a night Bielsa later described as a loss of faith while Luke Ayling looked haunted trying to explain it.
That result left Leeds with one win in six. They drew 1-1 at Brentford a few days later, then won the next five and 12 of their final 14 to be crowned champions.
Forest, by contrast, won only three of their last 15 and finished seventh, missing the play-offs on goal difference.
Lamouchi was sacked in October 2020. He went on to coach Al-Duhail, spent half a season at Cardiff City, was dismissed by Al-Riyadh and Al-Diriyah in Saudi Arabia, then in January of this year took the Tunisia job.
Tunisia now face an uphill task in Group F, with Japan and the Netherlands still to come.
