Sadio Mané struck a brace in Senegal’s 2-3 friendly defeat to the United States, reaching 55 international goals and moving fourth among African scorers this century.
According to L'Équipe, the game formed part of Senegal’s build-up to a World Cup running from 11 June to 19 July.
Senegal trailed by two before the interval, and Mané’s double brought the Lions of Teranga level.
He now sits behind Samuel Eto'o on 56, Didier Drogba on 63 and Mohamed Salah on 65 in 21st-century African international scoring.
At 34, and with more than 120 caps, the Senegal captain again underlined his influence. It marks a testing start to preparations with 10 days until the tournament begins. Senegal are in Group I with France, Norway and Iraq.
