Sage, Genesio, O'Neil, Puel as Ligue 1 coaching exodus gathers pace | OneFootball

More than half of Ligue 1 are changing head coach this summer, with 10 clubs already confirming departures. According to Le Progres, the churn reflects stalled projects and tight finances amid the TV rights crisis.

From Olivier Pantaloni, who revealed on 10 April that he would leave Lorient, to Gary O'Neil, who has exited Strasbourg for newly promoted Ipswich Town, the exits span the spring. Pierre Sage has left vice-champions Lens for Crystal Palace, succeeding Oliver Glasner, with Lens due between 3 and 5 million euros and Dino Toppmöller arriving.

Bruno Genesio did not renew at Lille after finishing third, and Davide Ancelotti takes over, while Genesio has been linked with Marseille. Monaco dismissed Sébastien Pocognoli after finishing seventh and have turned to Filipe Luis. Toulouse’s Carles Martinez Novell will join Bayer Leverkusen, with Jens Berthel Askou coming in.

After a fine season for promoted Lorient, Pantaloni moves to Nice and Alexandre Dujeux switches from Angers to Lorient, with Angers appointing Stéphane Gilli. Auxerre have parted with Christophe Pélissier, owner James Zhou installing Will Still. Claude Puel kept Nice up via a play-off win over Saint-Étienne, then departed amid structural changes.

Tragedy struck Brest as Éric Roy died at 58 following cancer, having led the club to a Ligue 1 podium and an ultimately unsuccessful Champions League play-off against Paris. Unresolved situations remain, notably at Marseille where Habib Beye’s position is in doubt and Genesio has reportedly had an agreement in place for weeks, and at Paris FC where Antoine Kombouaré has yet to agree terms.
