Sam Allardyce’s tongue-in-cheek Downing Street post has gone viral after Sir Keir Starmer said he would quit as Prime Minister. The former Leeds United manager has leaned into life online since leaving Elland Road.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the ex-Leeds boss shared a photoshopped image of himself at a lectern outside 10 Downing Street captioned “Before anyone asks...no.” The post has 97k likes, 60k forwards, and his Instagram account sits just shy of 100k followers.

Allardyce, long cast as a firefighting manager, was hired by Leeds in 2023 with four games left after Javi Gracia’s sacking, itself following Jesse Marsch’s dismissal. Andrea Radrizzani and his board made the move.

Losses to Man City, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur left Leeds 19th and relegated to the Championship. Allardyce departed by mutual consent before 49ers Enterprises completed their takeover and appointed Daniel Farke.

Since then he has fronted the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, often revisiting his Leeds stint. After defeat by Aston Villa dropped Leeds into the relegation zone and talk over Farke’s security grew, he said he had watched the game and felt they did not play badly.

He suggested fear of another drop and recent results had fuelled the noise, and noted there was speculation even when Farke got promoted. He said he could not see standout players, saw a good team, and that goals might again be the issue. Former Leeds attacker Robert Snodgrass, Allardyce’s first signing at West Brom, responded to the viral post by urging him to do it until the end of the year, affectionately calling him gaffa.
