Sampaio Corrêa’s Alexandre says worst has passed after convulsion against Flamengo

Sampaio Corrêa midfielder Alexandre has issued an update after suffering a convulsion during the match against Flamengo at the Maracanã.

The incident occurred eight minutes into the first half of Saturday's sixth-round Campeonato Carioca fixture, and he left the stadium by ambulance.

In a video posted on Sunday, the player said the worst had passed, he was fine after a scare, thanked for the messages and prayers, and said he would be back soon.

The scene prompted concern among players, with Flamengo striker Pedro kneeling beside Alexandre to pray. Supporters from various clubs sent messages of support on social media.

Flamengo won 7-1 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Campeonato Carioca, where they will face Botafogo.
