Samu Castillejo, 31, is without a club and training as he looks for a fresh opportunity. According to Superdeporte, the winger is keeping fit in the gym and working on the pitch while he waits.

He joined Valencia in 2022, the same summer Gennaro Gattuso arrived at Mestalla. Since then, his career has not followed the path once expected.

After breaking through at Málaga, he moved to Villarreal and became an important figure over three years. A switch to Milan followed, where four seasons were followed by an offer from Valencia to help him rediscover confidence after San Siro.

Following a season with more downs than ups and out of Rubén Baraja’s plans, he joined Sassuolo. He did not settle, the team were relegated, his involvement shrank from mid season and he finished injured.

In the winter of 2025 he signed for Johor in Malaysia, but had to wait until August to make his debut in a 3-0 win, when he even wore the armband. Two weeks later he started and then made a second successive appearance, something he did not repeat. After those first outings, he featured only once in the next 20.

Now 31, he continues to prepare in search of his next move.
