Santos are considering arranging domestic friendlies during the World Cup break to keep the squad active. According to Diario Do Peixe, president Marcelo Teixeira said the football department and coaching staff are working on the programme.
The plan shifted after adjustments to the Brazilian calendar.
Teixeira explained that a longer international trip had been explored with the organiser, but the new dates left no window for those matches. The club therefore began looking at options within Brazil.
With less time before competition resumes, Cuca’s staff intend to intensify physical, technical and tactical work, and use friendlies to build match rhythm.
The CBF moved the Botafogo league fixture to 16 July. The change was made because of the Copa Sudamericana playoffs, with Santos to face Universidad Central of Venezuela on 21 July.
Santos remain in a mid-season camp at CT Rei Pelé. Opponents and dates for any warm-up games in Brazil are yet to be confirmed.
