Santos expect forward Gustavo Caballero to report back at CT Rei Pelé early next week, and are projecting a rise in his value after the World Cup.
According to Globo.com, the board has received recent enquiries for the 24-year-old, who has three seasons left on his deal and spent the first half of the year on loan at Portsmouth.
Caballero featured in both of Paraguay's knockout ties, against Germany and France, and is viewed as a potential sale to ease finances.
Santos' debt exceeds R$ 1 billion, with delays in wages on the books and in image rights payments.
His stay is not ruled out, with cash flow constraints limiting the prospect of reinforcements near the transfer window opening.
The CBF has opened an extraordinary domestic registration period from Thursday to 17, for players active in Brazil, while overseas recruits can only be registered from 20 when the international window opens.
Santos have little to invest and are under a FIFA transfer ban over a debt to Monaco from the Jean Lucas signing, totalling R$ 12 million.
If no bid arrives, Cuca could use Caballero, who offers rare pace and can operate as a winger.
Paraguay's surprise win over Germany in the second phase has lifted the squad's profile, and the club are weighing whether market interest becomes an offer that eases Vila Belmiro finances.
