São Paulo are seeking a new centre-back for the rest of the season and the next window, and have set their sights on Portuguese defender Domingos Duarte, 31.

According to ESPN Brasil, the club have opened talks and tabled a proposal to sign him on a free transfer, with the Getafe player's contract running only until the end of this month.

São Paulo are currently well placed to land Duarte. Botafogo, along with other sides, particularly in Europe, are also tracking the centre-back.

Flamengo pursued Duarte at the start of last season while he was with Getafe, submitting a bid of three million euros, around R$16 million at the time.

The Rio club did not complete a deal in pre-season and moved on to other targets, eventually signing Léo Ortiz from Red Bull Bragantino.
