São Paulo’s Civil Police have opened an inquiry into alleged diversion of funds and the use of fake invoices at Corinthians during the presidency of Duilio Monteiro Alves from 2021 to 2023. The probe began last week.

It follows a request lodged by a Corinthians supporter with the Public Prosecutor’s Office in July, which took months to move from federal to state jurisdiction. As reported by ge, the request cited a report that the club covered personal expenses in that period.

A club expense report and presidential declaration, with receipts dated from 26 September to 31 October 2023, recorded 176 purchases totalling R$ 86.524,62. The items were paid in cash and later reimbursed by the club. They included beer, erectile medication and other goods unrelated to football operations.

The main supplier listed is 'Oliveira Minimercado', which billed R$ 32.580 across seven invoices between 18 and 31 October, all described as buffet services. The business is registered in Jardim Ângela in southern São Paulo, roughly 35km from Corinthians’ headquarters.

The case was already under examination by São Paulo’s Public Prosecutor. After hearing the 'Oliveira Minimercado' partners, prosecutors found the testimony weak and reinforced suspicion the company is a front. The investigation continues.

In a separate case in December, the same office charged Duilio with embezzlement over use of the club credit card. The same had previously happened with former president Andrés Sanchez.

Since the initial report last July, Duilio has denied knowing the spreadsheet, insisted on the probity of his administration and said he is available to assist authorities. His lawyers say they have not yet been given access to any Civil Police file, cannot comment on the merits, will speak after full access and that he remains calm and at the authorities’ disposal.
