São Paulo state prosecutors have demanded that Corinthians’ deliberative council immediately restart internal proceedings involving former president Andrés Sanchez, according to Meu Timao.
In a letter to council president Romeu Tuma Júnior, prosecutor Cassio Conserino said the club is bound by its statute to keep the inquiries moving even while court-ordered cautions are in force.
Sanchez faces internal proceedings amid investigations into possible misuse of corporate cards during his 2018 to 2021 presidency. The council had paused the Ethics and Justice Commission, arguing a measure barring him from Parque São Jorge and contact with officials made internal acts unworkable.
Conserino countered that the order only restricts physical presence and direct personal contact, so the internal case can proceed by other means. He noted that technology is routinely used in court hearings, and could likewise enable remote administrative steps while safeguarding adversarial process and full defence.
He also dismissed any suggestion that administrative testimony involving contact with councillors would breach the caution, saying the measure does not block the exercise of rights in the administrative sphere.
The prosecutor asked Romeu Tuma Júnior to take the steps needed for regular continuation, including remote hearings if required. He added that halting the probe is unsupported by law, jurisprudence or the club’s own statute, and expected the Ethics and Justice Commission to resume its work promptly.
