According to ExpressAndStar.com, West Bromwich MP Sarah Coombes has urged the government to help secure a swift resolution to Albion’s financial charge by the EFL amid concern over possible sanctions.
She raised the issue in Parliament on Thursday, putting it to Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy. She said supporters are very concerned after a charge believed to relate to alleged profit and sustainability breaches linked to historic loans late in Guochuan Lai’s tenure, and said the club strongly rejects the allegations.
She warned that, given a seven-game unbeaten run keeping Albion just above the relegation zone, any points deduction that sends them down would be heartbreaking, and asked for an urgent resolution.
Nandy responded by emphasising the Football Governance Act, passed in 2025 to safeguard heritage and the integrity of competition, and indicated the relevant authorities would look at the matter closely.
Albion are set for an EFL hearing over an alleged breach of the three-year PSR limit of £41.5 million between 2022 and 2025. Shilen Patel’s Bilkul takeover concluded in February 2024, and the discrepancy is believed to centre on a £5m interest payment on two MSD Holdings loans in 2022 and 2023.
