Maurizio Sarri is gaining traction among the candidates to succeed Sergio Conceiçao on the Milan bench. The Rossoneri are headed for a profound shake-up in about two weeks once their hellish season is finally over.
Per Corriere dello Sport, the former Lazio boss was one of the top options to replace Paulo Fonseca already, but he didn’t accept a short-term contract. On the other hand, he’s keen on the destination. Massimiliano Allegri remains in the picture given the support from the fan base and his past success at the club. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the front office is very high on Vincenzo Italiano and is monitoring Gian Piero Gasperini, but they might stay where they are.
The Milan moves won’t stop with a new coach, with Sarri currently the leader in the clubhouse, La Stampa informs. The Rossoneri will make a final attempt for Atalanta director Tony D’Amico; otherwise, they’ll appoint Igli Tare or stand pat. Owner Gerry Cardinale is considering former ATP manager Massimo Calvelli for a position similar to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s.
The Tuscan boss is intrigued, but they might have to reassure him about the transfer market. Manchester City are preparing their assault on Tijjani Reijnders. Theo Hernandez offered his services to Real Madrid, Marca reports (via Calciomercato). Mike Maignan is far from certain to stay as well.
He has lost some luster in his final season at Lazio, but, stylistically speaking, he’d be a better fit for Allegri, who’s also more expensive salary-wise and more demanding. They’ll have to sort out their internal confusion and turmoil first, as it might turn off more than a few coaches.
