Seko Fofana has left Porto at the end of his loan and returned to Rennes, with whom he is under contract until 2029. The deal contained no purchase option.
According to O Jogo, Porto are not closing the door on the 31-year-old, although a permanent move looks difficult. Factors include a reported salary of around six million euros gross per year and Rennes having paid 20 million euros about 18 months ago to sign him from Al Ettifaq, where he had been on loan from Al Nassr.
In just over three months he made a strong impression and helped their title success. Porto’s farewell highlighted his decisive goals against Sporting, Braga and Famalicão. He felt valued and important during the run-in.
In the league he scored three times in 12 games and 280 minutes, the standout strike coming at Braga in a pivotal 2-1 win. He had earlier scored in the clássico with Sporting, then later against Famalicão, with both efforts yielding draws. In the Europa League he played four matches for 317 minutes, adding 83 minutes across two Taça de Portugal ties.
Fofana is willing to take a pay cut to sign permanently. Even so, the path back is complicated and patience would be required, and other conditions could still prevent a return for 2026/27.
