Watford and Leicester City drew 0-0 at Vicarage Road on Saturday, a result that lifts Leicester from 23rd to 22nd in the Championship.
The turning point came in the 41st minute when Patson Daka's penalty was saved low by Egil Selvik after Abdul Fatawu was fouled in the area.
After the restart, the Foxes pushed forward, but Selvik parried Stephy Mavididi's drive (51.) and Ricardo Pereira's angled effort (75.), then denied Ben Nelson from point-blank range in the sixth minute of second half stoppage time.
Gary Rowett turned to Bobby Decordova-Reid and Divine Mukasa on the hour, and Mukasa forced a low save (63.). Daka then glanced a header just wide (65.), before Mukasa headed narrowly off target (76.).
The spot kick followed a foul by Formose Mendy on Fatawu. Daka went low and Selvik guessed right.
First half stoppages were lengthy, stretching the opening period before the interval.
The Foxes registered 15 attempts with five on target. The Hornets produced six attempts and two on target, and earned seven corners.
The result leaves the Hornets ninth. The Foxes host Preston North End next, while the Hornets visit Queens Park Rangers.
