What about Edouard Mendy?

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his participation in Senegal’s upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifiers, Edouard Mendy has sent out reassuring signals.
Injured during the Saudi Pro League match against Neom SC (1-0) on August 28, the Senegalese goalkeeper suffered a contusion. This injury kept him out of the Saudi King’s Cup round of 16 clash against Al-Arabi (0-5) last Sunday.
Initially declared doubtful for this September international window, the former Chelsea shot-stopper has now joined his teammates in Dakar to prepare for the upcoming fixtures.
The official X account of the Senegal national team posted photos of him actively training, along with the message: “Edouard Mendy has also joined the Lions’ den. He took part in his first training session with his teammates this Wednesday.”
That’s certainly good news regarding the 33-year-old goalkeeper’s fitness. The big question now is whether Pape Thiaw will start him against Sudan (September 4) or rest him in order to have him fully fit for the crucial Group B clash against DR Congo five days later.
