Senegal are the first team to reach the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after coming from behind to defeat Sudan.
The Lions of Teranga were always the strong favourites going into this game but it was Sudan who took a surprise lead early in the game. Australia-based winger Aamir Abdallah got the ball on his left foot and then found the top corner beyond the reach of Édouard Mendy.
The equaliser came with around a half hour gone when Sadio Mané found Pape Gueye on the edge of the area. The Villarreal midfielder got his first of the game with an accurate finish that was just beyond the reach of Monged Al Neel.
Gueye then made it 2-1 just before the break with another excellent finish. This time it was Nicolas Jackson pulling the ball back to the 18-yard line where Gueye fired the ball into the net.
That goal ensured a deserved lead in a half where Senegal also had a goal ruled out and a penalty appeal turned down for offside.
It wasn't until the 77th minute that Sudan were finally put out of sight. Sudan were caught on the counter with Mané putting the ball down the channel for youngster Ibrahim Mbaye, who had just been introduced from the bench, to make it 3-1 with an accomplished strike.
Senegal will now face the winner of Mali and Tunisia to be played later today.
