Bologna played another disappointing stalemate, as they failed to break down a Parma side down to 10 men in the Emilia-Romagna Derby.

This was a local clash and neither side was in good form. The hosts had just one victory away to Monza and midweek lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League, while the Ducali had one point in their last four rounds. Jhon Lucumi was suspended following the red card against Atalanta, plus Niccolò Cambiaghi, Oussama El Azzouzi and Lewis Ferguson injured. Parma lost Alessandro Circati and Mateusz Kowalski for the season with ACL tears, plus Adrian Benedyczak and Nahuel Estevez, but Matteo Cancellieri returned from his ban.

Riccardo Orsolini cut inside and saw his curler deflected over the bar, while only stoic defending prevented Ange Yoan Bonny getting tap-ins on pull-backs from the by-line.

Bonny sprung the offside trap on Cancellieri’s pass and was denied by a combination of Sam Beukema and Lukasz Skorupski.

Bologna striker Santiago Castro was millimetres away from the goal with his glancing header on a corner skimming the far post.

The game changed straight after the restart, as Parma were reduced to 10 men. At first the referee had shown a yellow card for Woyo Coulibaly, but he changed it to red after the VAR On-Field Review, as the foul on Dan Ndoye was a little high.

It turned into a Bologna siege and Zion Suzuki pushed the Castro scorcher over the bar, but in several situations there were too many players trying to crowd onto crosses, ruining chances for Castro and Giovanni Fabbian.

When Suzuki was beaten by a Jesper Karlsson effort, he watched as a deflection took it inches wide of the upright.

Despite being down to 10 men, Parma threatened a winner at the 89th minute when Valentin Mihaila surged forward and unleashed a screamer that Nicola Ravaglia got down to palm away with one glove.

Sent off: Coulibaly 52 (P)
