Reports from Corriere dello Sport suggest that Rasmus Hojlund’s future could be decided in the coming days, with Napoli strongly pushing for his signature. Following Romelu Lukaku’s injury, Antonio Conte has turned back to the market, and the Danish forward has emerged as the club’s top target.
The Italian outlet states that “the Azzurri have initiated discussions with the player and Manchester United and hope to reach a turning point as early as Monday.” That line alone underlines the urgency with which Napoli are approaching the deal. Having missed out on him earlier in the year when AC Milan were also circling, the Serie A champions believe this could be the right time to land the striker.

Napoli are reportedly in close contact with Hojlund’s camp. According to Corriere dello Sport, “the Danish striker has given his approval for a move to the Azzurri, a significant first sign.” This approval is key, as it signals that personal terms could soon fall into place, leaving the clubs to negotiate the finer details.
The sticking point appears to be Manchester United’s stance on the deal structure. As reported, “the Red Devils would like to let him leave permanently or, at most, on loan with an obligation to buy.” That suggests United are unwilling to sanction a simple loan move without guarantees. While Napoli feel confident the salary demands are “bridgeable,” the transfer fee is yet to be finalised. Monday could indeed prove decisive.
If United are ready to cash in, Hojlund may have the opportunity to reboot his career in Serie A under Conte. For Napoli, it could be the perfect solution after Lukaku’s setback. For United, however, it poses big questions about squad depth heading into a long season.
From a Manchester United fan’s perspective, these reports will spark mixed feelings. On one hand, Hojlund has shown flashes of potential since arriving at Old Trafford, and many supporters will feel he hasn’t yet been given a consistent run in a settled system. Letting him leave now could be seen as United repeating mistakes of the past, moving on from young talent before they fully blossom.
On the other hand, there is recognition among fans that United need to balance the squad and manage resources carefully. If Napoli are serious about a permanent deal or even a loan with obligation to buy, it could present a financial opportunity that helps United invest in other pressing areas – particularly midfield or defensive reinforcements.
Supporters may also consider the impact on depth. With the long season ahead, losing Hojlund could leave United short of options, especially if injuries pile up. Many fans would likely prefer a straight loan rather than a permanent exit, giving Hojlund the chance to develop in Serie A and return more confident.
Ultimately, this is a classic case of risk versus reward. If United cash in now, they could regret it should Hojlund flourish in Italy. Yet if they hold on, they risk limiting his game time in Manchester. Fans will watch Monday’s developments closely, with cautious optimism that the club makes the right call.
