The representatives of outgoing Manchester City captain Kevin De Bruyne have received contact from one major Serie A club over the possibility of a summer switch.

The Belgian midfielder is currently in the process of weighing up his potential next club amid a wealth of offers from across the globe, while still maintaining focus on the task at hand with Manchester City this season.

Pep Guardiola and his players are continuing to strive for a top-five finish in the Premier League in what would also bank them a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League following a tough season due to injury and fitness problems.

Manchester City officials collectively took the decision to not renew De Bruyne’s terms beyond this summer, thus allowing the midfielder to leave the club on a free transfer after 10 years of service to the Etihad Stadium.

While the common belief is that Major League Soccer sides have been battling for the player’s signature, alongside keen interest from Saudi Arabia, De Bruyne’s openness to an opportunity within Europe has presented new ideas – the latest of which is coming from Italy.

That is according to the information of The Times’ Paul Hirst, Serie A giants Napoli have become the latest club to declare their interest in signing Manchester City’s departing captain Kevin De Bruyne this summer.

The Italian side have reportedly contacted representatives of the 33-year-old to tell them that they would like to sign one of the greatest midfielders to have ever operated in the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly, the report highlights that ‘several other clubs’ have also informed Kevin De Bruyne of their interest, with teams in Saudi Arabia, the United States, and elsewhere in Europe believed to be keen.

For now, it is yet to be understood what De Bruyne would expect from the Italian side in terms of salary package and the overall financial implications of a move, while the player will likely need to discuss the situation with those close to him.

The wider belief is that Kevin De Bruyne holds the lifestyle of his young family at the very forefront of any decision on a move, and as such several reports have utilised that way of thinking when suggesting that MLS is the best move for the player.

As for Manchester City and their aim of replacing Kevin De Bruyne in the upcoming transfer market, the club are believed to be aiming to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, while Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White is also a priority option for the central roles.
