Serie A lost a few stars but also brought in several potential new ones during the summer. The final tally says the teams collectively spent more, €814M, than they cashed in, €761M. The Premier League is on another planet in terms of investments, €2.73B, but the Italian championship stacked up well against its other competitors, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
Bundesliga shelled out more money €840M, but also pocketed more, €1.07B. La Liga and Ligue 1 paid about €600M for their purchases and received €651M and €1.08B from sales respectively.
Therefore, Serie A was the only other league with a negative balance, meaning that it forked over more money than it got from the departures. The most expensive exits were Victor Osimhen, Mateo Retegui, and Tijjani Reijnders. The striker became the priciest Italian in history. The figures of his move to Al-Qadsiah surpassed Sandro Tonali’s ones.
Milan and Napoli, although with the help of meaningful sales, Juventus and Inter drove up the spending league-wide. The Partenopei completed the richest internal transfer, acquiring Sam Beukema from Bologna for 31M.
Fiorentina pulled the biggest deal involving an Italian player who didn’t leave the country, onboarding Roberto Piccoli from Cagliari for €25M. Instead, Giovanni Leoni transferred to Liverpool for €35M add-ons included.
Serie A brought in the most players from France, 44 for a total of €162M. Spain, 28 for €61M, England, 24 for €150M, and Germany, 21 for €56M follow suit. La Liga lured the most footballers from the Peninsula, 37, but the Premier League sent the most money overall, €340M.
