Claudio Ranieri and Roma extended their impressive unbeaten run in Serie A with a comfortable 3-0 victory against struggling Monza at the Stadio Olimpico, with goals from Alexis Saelemaekers, Eldor Shomurodov and Angelino.

Paulo Dybala, Manu Kone and Leandro Paredes were all given rests after the 3-2 victory over Porto in the Europa League on Thursday. There was no Artem Dovbyk either, as he is not yet back from his recent adductor issue.

Niccolo Pisilli, who put pen to paper on a new contract extension over the weekend, had a chance to put his side 1-0 up within the opening minutes, receiving the ball from Matias Soule on the cut-back, but it took a slight bobble and the youngster put it wide from 10 yards out.

Saelemaekers needed just 10 minutes to open the scoring. He had possession on the right wing, cut in onto his left foot and then bent a shot in at the far post from the corner of the area for 1-0.

Matias Soule showed his comfort on the ball just after the half-hour mark, standing up his man before hitting the byline and sending a clipped cross in off the right for Shomurodov to nod home from the centre of the area for 2-0.

Roma were comfortable for the vast majority of the opening 45, but Mile Svilar was called into action towards the end, providing an excellent fingertip save to deny Dany Mota from close range.

Tommaso Baldanzi showed some great footwork to squeeze through several Monza defenders in the area on the hour mark, but he wasn’t able to get much power behind his shot, which Turati was able to deal with.

Roma put the result beyond any doubt through Angelino in the 73rd minute. Bryan Cristante sent the ball out to the left, and the Spaniard had plenty of time to pick his spot and dispatch past Turati into the far corner of the net.

Second-half substitute Dybala sent in a corner towards the front post with two minutes of normal time remaining. Cristante was running towards it, but managed to steer a header the other direction and in at the far post for a late Roma fourth.

Roma remain unbeaten in Serie A since mid-December and are now 10 unbeaten in Serie A. The Giallorossi move within one point of both Milan and Bologna as a result.

Roma 4-0 Monza

Saelemaekers 10’, Shomurodov 32’, Angelino 73′, Cristante 88′.
