Serie A’s next round remains without confirmed dates and times, leaving Napoli, Juventus, Milan and Como in limbo. According to SportMediaset, the league is preparing an urgent appeal to the regional administrative court, TAR, which would respond within 24 hours.
The dispute centres on Roma v Lazio. It was first set for Sunday, March 17, the day of the Italian Open men’s final at Foro Italico, the same site as the Stadio Olimpico. Around 100,000 attendees are expected, while President Sergio Mattarella is due at the tennis, stretching police resources.
With Lazio in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final, the derby cannot be staged on the Saturday. Roma also remain in contention for next season’s Champions League, adding pressure on scheduling.
The league then fixed the derby for Sunday, May 17 at 11.30 BST, a call that satisfied neither club nor local authorities. Rome’s prefecture has now ordered a switch to Monday at 19.45 BST.
Because the derby falls in the penultimate round, and with five teams chasing three Champions League places, matches involving Napoli, Juventus, Milan, Roma and Como must kick off together for fairness. A Monday move would therefore require Pisa v Napoli, Como v Parma, Genoa v Milan and Juventus v Fiorentina to be played in the same slot.
